Why ACUPUNCTURE?
Acupuncture can benefit individuals living with high levels of stress, those living with depressive symptoms and anxiety disorders. The stress-relieving elements of acupuncture help to also improve emotional regulation, overall mood, and boost overall feelings of wellbeing. Essentially, acupuncture helps by relieving built-up stress that has accumulated over time. Acupuncture works by restoring energy flow that, when not able to flow freely, can cause symptoms of stress and anxiety. Specifically, acupuncture works to relieve symptoms of depression by stimulating areas of the body responsible for the production of vital emotion-managing hormones. Therefore, assisting in the releasing of mood-boosting endorphins which result in feelings of positive feelings and helping with emotional regulation.
Individuals experiencing symptoms of anxiety or stress disorders of various kinds can benefit from acupuncture. Some of these conditions include:
Generalized Anxiety Disorder
Social Anxiety Disorder
Panic Disorder
PTSD
Acute Stress Disorder
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
Depression
and more

Acupuncture is a safe and effective therapy that can help to assist in the combination of other mental health therapies. At WellMinded Counseling in Colorado outpatient clients can benefit from the supplementary support acupuncture brings to treatment. Body acupuncture is recommended for a lot of physical ailments, including chronic or acute pain relief. During a session, sterilized needles are inserted into the skin at specific acupressure points all over the body. The penetration of the needles stimulate the nerves located in these acupressure points. It is believed that the stimulation created by acupuncture affects our bodies’ neurohormonal pathways, causing the body to release neurotransmitters to help with pain, stress, or fatigue. Studies also suggest that acupuncture has anti-inflammatory properties, and it has been shown to enhance the effects of certain medications, such as fertility drugs.
Acupuncture is effective in treating many physical ailments, such as headaches & migraines, fibromyalgia, digestive disorders, and menstrual pain & irregularities. In addition, it is also effective for outpatient detoxification, smoking cessation, pain management, chronic stress, anxiety, and insomnia. For anyone who is uncomfortable with traditional acupuncture needles, the Delray Center also offers needle-free eastern medicine treatments using Chinese Medical Massage (Tui Na), micro-current, and cupping.

+ Does it hurt?
The needles may pinch upon entry. If the area being treated is particularly unbalanced, that entry point may be extra sensitive to the needle entry. However, once the needle is place, it is not touched and you are not moving, so after a few minutes it’s normal that you would not even feel the needle there.
+ What does it do?
Acupuncture is an ancient traditional Chinese medicine that is built on the concept of Chi, or energy. The idea is that Chi gets unbalanced, clogged, or blocked in some areas which then causes us to have symptoms. The stimulation of the needle to the designated point on the body helps stimulate the Chi to promote healing. Although this is an ancient concept, there is science that shows that mechanical (needle) stimulation can cause chemical change (Chi/energy/blood flow/neurochemicals, etc.).
+ How often do I need to do it?
This depends on what you are treating. Some conditions may take longer to treat, and some may be treated in just a few sessions. It can also be based on how you are feeling. If your body seems to indicate that more attention is needed, then we encourage you to listen to your body.
+ What does it treat?
Acupuncture can treat symptoms from just about anything. Research proves that it is helpful with chronic pain and addiction, but there is also evidence that suggests it can help with the following: Gastrointestinal issues (nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, cramping, etc.) Fibromyalgia Arthritis Respiratory Disorders (asthma, allergies, etc.) Migraines Cardiac Issues Infertility Depression/Anxiety
