Owner, Supervisor, and Therapist at WellMinded Counseling

As an Owner

I’m the owner of WellMinded Counseling and love being a therapist and connecting with the community. I have been a therapist since 2013 and graduated from the University of South Florida Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. I have practiced in a variety of settings including in-home, residential substance abuse, intensive out patient, a crisis stabilization unit, and for since 2017 been in private practice.

I started this private practice because I enjoy working for myself and being an entrepreneur is in my blood. I love to set up systems that work, find ways to improve things and create new ways of doing things and thinking about things. Having equitable, and inclusive services to the community aligns with my core values as well as working to de-stigmatize mental health care. Which at times can seem difficult to find in the world. So I carved out my own space even if its only a small corner of the world to invite other clinicians that share in my vision to join the practice.

As a supervisor

I supervise new therapists as part of the practice as a means to help nourish the next generations of therapists that hopefully will continue the work on moving the needle forward, in providing care to anyone that seeks it, with compassion, understanding and the mindset of growth. I want to help empower the therapists I supervise to explore with clients how to heal their wounds, even the ones that are uncomfortable to look at and be to empower clients to be the best versions of themselves.

Being in a teaching/educational environment was always a safe place for me, somewhere I could ask questions, challenge myself to grow, focus my mind, and to collaborate, which is why becoming a supervisor was so important to me in my role/identity as a therapist, and such a large part of the practice at WellMinded Counseling.

As a clinician

As a clinician I really focus on how the client can show up and be their authentic self in the world. Often we are taught to “fit in” and put on a performance or mask to get along, please others or to blend in. We don’t have to live like that, living in our own truth invites in more spaciousness, healing, and helps alleviate some of the burdens we have put on ourselves or that we have internalized from outside messages.

People often show up to therapy feeling overly anxious, rigid, exhausted, feeling hurt, dismissed, disconnected, and are sick and tired of feeling that way. My role as a therapist is to help people explore and move through these emotions and the barriers that keep them stuck. Whether its they carry a large mental load in their home life, or they focus on having everything being perfect, or they feel shame about who they are. I aspire to serve those that have held back on advocating for themselves, who’ve struggle to have passion in life, or are discontent with their life because nothing they do ever feels “good enough”.

I’m trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing, and have a passion with serving those that struggle with anxiety/perfectionism, eating disorders/body image issues, pregnancy/postpartum concerns, sexual identity and the influence of developmental, social-cultural and familial factors on sexuality.

I’m currently under the supervision of AASECT Certified Sex Therapist Jacqueline Mendez in pursuit to grow my knowledge and capabilities to serve those that are working towards understanding their relationship with their bodies, sexual health, sexual/gender identities, and empowering them to explore safe, empowering and pleasurable intimate relationships.
