Play Therapy in Colorado
About Play Therapy
Because of their age it is often even more difficult to discuss what is bothering them since children communicate differently than adults do.
How Play Therapy Can Help?
Children often find it easier to communicate through drawing and playing. That is what play therapy does. Play therapy allows clients to openly play out what is on their minds without fear of being interrupted. While doing this in the strength of the relationship with a therapist the client can begin feeling safe and have the ability to not only work through the trauma but find ways to cope outside of therapy. Children view the world from an experiential way play is language.
Right after the first session the therapist sits down with the parents and states what the goals are, how the child may act as more “steps” are achieved, and one of the most important that parents need to take the information from the sessions home and work on it there. This is very important because it can help the child either continue growing or not. The parents know about the achievements and what needs to go home, however, unless the child asks the parents do not go into the room during the session. This allows the child to open up more and feel they do not need to hide anything or act a certain way.
